Leading by Example by Cheryl Lacey Donovan

Leading by Example

Ezekiel 20:18 I said to their children in the desert, "Do not follow the statutes of your fathers or keep their laws or defile yourselves with their idols.

"Do as I say not as I do." How often have I heard this phrase repeated by parents to their children. But the reality is our children are like sponges. They are a captive audience as they absorb into their psyche everything they see us say and do. The likelyhood of their not following in our footsteps is 50/50.

In Ezekiel 20:18, we find the prophet Ezekiel reminding Israel how God warned the younger generation not to follow in their elders footsteps because of their idolotrous practices.

What would God say to your children about your practices? What about your attitudes, behaviors? Do they match what you say you believe?

Determine to live a life that encourages and inspires your children in the admonition of the Lord.
